The
beach at Playa Blanca is wide and unobstructed, extending nearly
for 9½ miles. Hotel Las Palmas sits about in the middle,
so that you can stroll or jog for miles in either direction.
It is an all sand beach, with no rocks on shore or submerged,
perfect for bare feet. |
The
Mexican government has strict beach accessibility laws, which means
that there are no fences or structures within several meters of
the water at highest tide. In essence, the beach at Playa Blanca
is ideal for careless beach combing or long walks.
The
ocean however, is the direct Pacific Ocean and can be dangerous
for swimming. The waves and currents are unpredictable and quite
powerful at times, so that we recommend enjoying the sea for its
visual majesty and pounding surf, and not to be physically challenged.
That
being said, the water temperature is pleasant, the drop-off is very
gradual and far enough out to allow shallow wading using appropriate
caution and common sense. If ocean swimming is important to you,
we recommend a short trip to the south end of the beach at the quaint
fishing village of Barra de Potosi. It has more of a protected swimming
area.
